Basic Essentials for Home Theatre screens

Don’t want to look like a home theatre rookie? Then get these 5 basics right.

Monday, January 7th, 2008

It is everyman’s dream to have a huge home theatre system that rivals anything that the theatres can offer. For the man, his wife and kids, the home theatre is something truly coveted, turning a mediocre movie into something amazing.

So, when you have finally picked out the projection screen and projector you want, brought it home and now you are ready to put everything together so you can sit down and watch the big game super-sized. However, there are some things to consider before you set up that home theatre.

1. Spend the Cash on Speakers

First of all, make sure you spend the right money for the right speakers. If you go cheap, you will lose a great deal of the sound that could complement the picture you are seeing on your new projection screen. This does not mean you have to spend thousands, but net to the cost of the projection screen, speakers are the most important thing to pay for.

2. Know Your Levels

Of course, after connecting all the speakers and turning it on you find that the subwoofer is too loud, nothing sounds right and dialog can’t be heard properly when there is a soundtrack in the background. If this is the case, make sure you have balanced speaker levels. Try and get all the levels balanced, and then figure out where the speakers need to be. Most home theatre receivers have a menu that will allow you to figure out the best distance between the speakers, and the best position to listen in the living room.

3. Read the Manuals

Next, the user manual is there for a reason, so make sure you read it. The last thing you want to do is hook everything up wrong and then have to spend another hour unplugging and re-plugging everything in because you didn’t take the time to do it right the first time.

 4. Untangle the Cable Mess

Now, if you have set everything up you may notice there are a ton of cables all over the place. You are going to have to keep track of what plugs into what, and do your best not to get them tangled. So, label all your cables with tape or a marking, and make sure that your cable lengths are not too long.

5. Buy Quality Cables

Speaking of cables, using cheap cables can actually degrade the quality of what you see and hear. Make sure that you go the extra mile with your cables and get the best that you can afford, you will happy you did when you are watching your favourite movie without interference from poor cables.

Now, sit back, relax and enjoy the show

Beamax Best Selling Projector Screens for October 07

Top selling Beamax Screens - October 2007

Beamax had a record month in October and sold more screens than in any other month Ever. So, a big thank you to all our customers.

Now, which projection screens are the most popular? Here’s our top 5 for October 2007:

  1. Most Popular Projection screen: Beamax 10250 R-series 213×122 manual projection screen
  2. Second most popular screen: Beamax 10248 R-series 213×162 manual projection screen
  3. Third most popular screen: Beamax 10247 R-series 180×138 manual projection screen
  4. Fourth most popular screen: Beamax 10249 R-series 179×101 manual projection screen
  5. Fifith most popular screen: Beamax 10041 R-series 244×183 manual projection screen

This shows that the R-series is popular for both home cinema and presentations.

My personal top 5 consists of some interesting screens we sold:

  1. 110″ Masquerade projection screen with a custom print and Walnut frame
  2. Custom M-tensioned with 340 cm viewing size and 60 cm top border
  3. 400×300 cm frame size A-series, custom
  4. Custom M-series electrical projection screen with rear projection fabric
  5. 10605 M-tensioned 174x 102 viewing size with 100 cm top border’

It’s amazing to see how diverse projection screens can be. There is more and more demand for custom projection screens. And it only makes sense: the additional cost aren’t that high (most of the time, it’s the cost of the nearest size up) and a custom screen allows you that make the most of your installation. Whether it’s an invisible installation (as with the Masquerade projection screen), or it’s in a room with a high ceiling (as with #5: the M-tensioned with 100 cm border), you can customise many projection screens to get it exactly how you like it.
