7 Home Theatre Essentials

When you are thinking of putting a home theatre together, there are many things you need to consider. These are essential items that will make your home theatre experience something truly out of this world.

1. Make sure, the room where your home theatre is going to be set up is large enough to hold everything and will have enough light to keep you from feeling like you are sitting in a dungeon.

2. What kind of display system will you be using? This is important because it will have serious repercussions on your home theatre experience. If you buy a big screen television, then you may not be able to fit everything into the small room you had planned as the home theatre room, where as if you use a projection screen, you will be able to fit everything in, but will it look the way you want it?

3. Look at the loudspeakers. Before you buy anything, listen to how the speakers sound in the electronics store and try and buy speakers that are the same brand as your home theatre, this will help make better acoustical matches between the speakers, the television and the rest of the room.

4. Get a good subwoofer that will be able to shake the windows when you watch a great action movie. However, understand that you need to find the subwoofer that is right for you, which will depend greatly if you have a hardwood floor or a carpeted floor.

5. Surge protection is very important because if there is a power surge, you could lose that great home theatre system you have been enjoying.

6 The universal remote control. This device will allow you to control everything about your home theatre without having to use four different controls for four different devices hooked up in your living room.

7. Lastly, no matter how good your home theatre is, if you are sitting on a stool while you watch television, you are not going to enjoy it. Make sure that you get the right kind of furniture to go with your home theatre. If you can, get specialized home theatre furniture that includes cup holders and extra-overstuffed padding to give you a comfortable feeling as you watch your favorite sports team, or favorite movie, on the big screen, while the subwoofer and speakers make you feel like you are right in the action.

No matter how you put it altogether, you are for sure going to enjoy your home theatre system. With so much of our time spent around the television, you might as well enjoy it as much as you can by immersing yourself into it. From the smallest cable to the largest screen, and everything in between, the home theatre system is a site to behold, especially on a snowy Sunday afternoon when you spend your time watching your favorite movie in the warmth of your big, overstuffed chair.

Basic Essentials for Home Theatre screens

Don’t want to look like a home theatre rookie? Then get these 5 basics right.

Monday, January 7th, 2008

It is everyman’s dream to have a huge home theatre system that rivals anything that the theatres can offer. For the man, his wife and kids, the home theatre is something truly coveted, turning a mediocre movie into something amazing.

So, when you have finally picked out the projection screen and projector you want, brought it home and now you are ready to put everything together so you can sit down and watch the big game super-sized. However, there are some things to consider before you set up that home theatre.

1. Spend the Cash on Speakers

First of all, make sure you spend the right money for the right speakers. If you go cheap, you will lose a great deal of the sound that could complement the picture you are seeing on your new projection screen. This does not mean you have to spend thousands, but net to the cost of the projection screen, speakers are the most important thing to pay for.

2. Know Your Levels

Of course, after connecting all the speakers and turning it on you find that the subwoofer is too loud, nothing sounds right and dialog can’t be heard properly when there is a soundtrack in the background. If this is the case, make sure you have balanced speaker levels. Try and get all the levels balanced, and then figure out where the speakers need to be. Most home theatre receivers have a menu that will allow you to figure out the best distance between the speakers, and the best position to listen in the living room.

3. Read the Manuals

Next, the user manual is there for a reason, so make sure you read it. The last thing you want to do is hook everything up wrong and then have to spend another hour unplugging and re-plugging everything in because you didn’t take the time to do it right the first time.

 4. Untangle the Cable Mess

Now, if you have set everything up you may notice there are a ton of cables all over the place. You are going to have to keep track of what plugs into what, and do your best not to get them tangled. So, label all your cables with tape or a marking, and make sure that your cable lengths are not too long.

5. Buy Quality Cables

Speaking of cables, using cheap cables can actually degrade the quality of what you see and hear. Make sure that you go the extra mile with your cables and get the best that you can afford, you will happy you did when you are watching your favourite movie without interference from poor cables.

Now, sit back, relax and enjoy the show
